If your goal is to improve as a player, it is important that you maximize your practice or lesson time. If practicing with another player, discuss your mutual objectives to be accomplished in the practice session. Take turns setting each other up to practice a particular shot. There is no value to mindless hitting during a practice session. You should be focused during both the time you are setting up your partner to practice their stroke and when you are practicing your stroke. If you are both being too inconsistent try a less demanding drill to build consistency. To get the most out of a group or private lesson, make sure that you: (1) come prepared to practice (Avoid excuses like I’m tired, it’s too hot, it’s too windy, etc.) (2) have an open mind to change (Your first comment when presented with a new approach or change shouldn’t be “I can’t do it”.) (3) have an upbeat attitude during the lesson (If you are having difficulty learning a new stroke or technique, stay positive. Challenge is part of the learning process. It’s actually one of the “fun” parts if you don’t take it so seriously.) (4) have an enjoyable experience. (You should leave feeling great).
