Drive your Racquet Through the Windshield

Some players hit their forehand like they are wiping the front of a windshield. They use their wrist or forearm to swipe at the ball. The shoulder is the joint that drives the racquet forward and through the ball. Contact should occur in front of your body with the racquet face in the horizontal position. You can extend the time your racquet maintains contact with the ball by stepping forward on contact. Extending the time your racquet is on the ball with improve control and increase velocity. Make sure you get your racquet low on the upswing by bending your knees. Remember you don’t want to wipe the windshield you want to drive your racquet through it.
