"Keep Moving Your Feet"

19 Mar 2008

One of the phrases I am constantly saying to my students and high school players is “keep moving your feet”.  Outside of baseball, golf and shooting pool, most sports require constant motion either on offense or defense. In tennis it amazes me to see players hit and just stand at look. I guess their praying that their opponent won’t be able to return the ball. Tennis like other sports requires constant defensive movement.  After you hit the ball you need to recover to a position on the court that will provide you the best opportunity to handle your opponent’s next shot. That position is most of the time just slightly behind the baseline near the middle of the court but if may be at the net if you perceive that you opponent will have difficulty hitting a good shot. In tennis like most other sports “movement is the name of the game”.
