League Rules/Procedures

 Procedure for Weekly Matches

  • You will receive an e-mail on Tuesdays asking if you would like a match on the upcoming Sunday. You will have until Thursday morning to respond. Failure to respond will mean that no match will be setup for you for that week. If you respond, a return e-mail from me will be sent on Thursday evening or Friday morning indicating your match time. It is your responsibility to acknowledge this e-mail by Friday evening with a confirmation that you will be coming to the match. Failure to show up for a match or late cancellations will result in penalties as described under the heading "late cancellations/no shows".  For your convenience, matches will also be posted on my website, www.haleytennis.com.

The Day of the Match

  • Arrive at least 10 minutes early. It is not fair to your opponent to arrive late. Both your opponent and I are left wondering if you will show.
  • When you arrive, check in with the person at the front desk.  At check in, you will be given a can of tennis balls.
  • After playing your match, please be sure to record you scores on the sheet at the front desk and return the tennis balls to the person at the desk.

During the Match

  • You are expected to know the rules of tennis and be able to play unsupervised.
  • Good sportsmanship is expected.  Players who do not exhibit good conduct may be dropped from the program.
  • The format for the matches will be the best out of three (3) sets using NO AD scoring.
  •  If there are less than 15 minutes remaining at the conclusion of the 2nd set, the USTA 10 point tiebreaker will be used in lieu of playing a third set. This is played just like the 7 point tiebreaker, except you must win 10 points. If time runs out and the second set is incomplete, the person leading in that set will receive credit for winning that set.

Match Results

·         Record the results on the sheet at the front desk at the conclusion of your match.  It is important to record the match results because this information is used to help schedule competitive matches and determine the league standings. You should also return the can of used balls at this time.

·         Match results will be posted on my website, www.haleytennis.com. This year, the player who wins the most matches will receive a $25 gift certificate to Dick's Sporting Goods.

Late Cancellation / No Shows

  • Please be considerate and avoid waiting until the last minute to call saying that you cannot play. Sometimes, I cannot find a sub at the last moment. Occasionally, I am unable to reach your opponent before he/she arrives at the club. Please render to others the consideration that you expect yourself. Players who cancel after matches have been emailed to the players will forfeit one week of play. Players who fail to show for a scheduled match or cancel after 12:00 PM the Saturday before the match will forfeit two weeks of play and be charged for them.

 Procedure for Inclement Weather

In case of inclement weather, league participants are expected to follow the following guidelines. Inclement weather does not include an ordinary rain storm.

  1. Call Centre Court to check if club is open. If Centre Court is open, then your match is on.
  2. If you choose not to play the match, you must call your opponent and advise him/her. See #6 below.
  3. It is advised that you call your opponent to make sure that they are also prepared to play.
  4. You should NOT ASSUME that the Club is closed or your opponent is not coming to play.
  5. If you do not show up for a match without making contact with your opponent, then you will forfeit 1 week's play
  6. A list of league players is maintained at the club. The person working the desk can give you your opponent's name and telephone number. Call George only as a last resort.
